Year in Review

I know it's been too long since our last post. I know everyone's been busy, but we really have been busy! Something I saw on CNN prompted me to think about 2007 and whether it was best year ever, worst year ever, or just another year. I'd definitely have to go with not just another year, and here's why:

This year, I, Sarah:

  • Got stranded in Kansas City by myselfwhen weather caused me to miss a flight! (January)
  • Actually had a boyfriend at Valentine's Day (February)
  • Got engaged to the wonderful man in my life! (March)
  • Facilitated PRSSA Elections so that I could have a new President to Replace me (April)
  • Graduated from BYU with a BA in Communications ; was awarded Outstanding Senior in Public Relations Award (April)
  • Left a good job, fiance and good friends behind to move home with my parents and live in Oklahoma (May - August)
  • Went back to retail--and liked it! (May- August)
  • Recieved my endowment in the St. Louis Missouri Temple (September)
  • Married my sweet Kevin, had an amazing honeymoon in Las Vegas (September)
  • Moved back to Provo and moved in with a boy so that my dear Kevin could finish school (September)
  • Started Working at Victoria's Secret again (October)
  • Spent my first Thanksgiving away from my family (November)
  • Got my first promotion ever! (December)
  • Played piano in the ward Christmas program (December)
  • Went to Oklahoma City for the first time, my first Christmas away from St. Louis and my extended family; got stranded in Denver, but this time with my husband.

Since Kevin has come into my life, a lot of things have changed. Many of these things, dare I say most of thiese things wouldn't have happened without Kevin, and especially his love and support. Even though I sacrificed a lot to be with him (Chicago, a career in PR); I know that all that I have recieved because of him is even better. Happy New Year, everyone!

It's Off to Work We Go

So it's been almost a month since we last posted! I had no idea. I still haven't been able to get Kevin to post and I now have a job. For the past month and a half, I've been working at a local Victoria's Secret Store. I know, I know. I have a degree and I want to work at a lingerie store? The thing is I worked at VS in Oklahoma City this summer and I had a great time. Although I love PR (what I majored in during my five years of college), I think that retail management is a better career for me in the short term. My career plans dramatically changed when I decided to marry Kevin, and when we decided to live in Provo rather than move to Chicago.

But seriously, I love my job. It's so much more interesting than a desk job because I get to work with so many people. There's so many different tasks and I often get to do them all in the same day. With retail, things are always changing, and I work for one of the largest companies and biggest brands in the entire world. I've worked at three different stores in three different states. I love that wherever I go, there will be a Victoria's Secret - and that I'm part of such a large, worldwide family of Victoria's Secret Angels!!

So I keep busy with work, our laundry, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc. and Kevin still works at the Provo City Library. He's busy as ever there and was recently in a commercial for the library (featured on iProvo, or channel 17 if you have comcast). He doesn't have a speaking role, but you can see him at the front of the line in one scene and he's sitting at the circulation desk in another. I'm so proud of him for working so hard - if it weren't for him we wouldn't have health insurance. We don't always get to see each other as much as we'd like, and our schedules don't always match up, but we are still happy and still madly in love. Today I was able to stop by the library during Kevin's break and spend a few minutes with him during a day when we wouldn't have seen each other for 12 1/2 hours!

So stop by Victoria's Secret at the Riverwoods or the Provo City library because that's usually where we are!!

Family Night

Since we got married, Kevin and I have tried to have "Family Night" (or Family Home Evening) every Monday nights. We had Family Night when I lived at home, complete with a song, prayer, lesson, activity and treat. Kevin and I are trying to continue the tradition we had in both our homes. It's obviously quite a bit different without kids, but we are having fun. We usually forgo the song and one of us teaches a short lesson. Patriarchal blessings, The Proclamation on the Family and Budgeting are topics we've tried to cover thus far. Our favorite part is the activity and treat; sometimes we combine them like we did this week!

Homemade Root Beer! Yum!

Get out of my dreams (and into my car)...

Here's our first major purchase together:

Isn't she beautiful? As much as we loved the '98 Grand Am (Thanks, Grandma!) We REALLY love our '03 Toyota Camry (Seriously, thanks Grandma!). The dealer guy was really nice to us and it was fun picking out the car together. Even though it was such a huge decision it was a great experience. Favorite moment from the day was while Sarah was in the front seat during the test drive: Quin (dealer guy): Do you always drive like this? Sarah: Drive like what....? Quin: You know, conservative, slower. Sarah: Oh, yeah. That. Yeah.... Kevin's new nickname for me is "My Little Featherfoot". (Incidentally that is also my Indian name)

So if any of my Utah friends are looking for a car, be sure to visit our friend Quin at Brent Brown Toyota!

Congratulations, Brittany!!

Yet another wedding tradition came true! My good friend and bridesmaid Brittany caught the bouquet at my wedding. About a month later, she got engaged!! I haven't met the lucky guy yet but I know they'll be so happy together. And since I started dating Kevin after I caught Emma's bouqet, the tradition continues.

Congratulations, Britt and Bryan, we are so happy for you!!

Rest of the Pictures

The rest of our wedding. The reception was gorgeous, beautiful, fantastic, amazing and everything a girl could want!

September 7, 2007

I know you've all been patiently waiting so here's a few while I'm still sorting through all of the rest!

Coming out of the St. Louis Temple.

My little sister Katie and little sister-in-law Ashley.

Me and some of my bridesmaids: Britt, Katie, Claire and Emma.

Me and one of my husbands (ha ha ha).

Loved my veil even if it did kind of get in the way and definitely got kicked up in the wind!

Six adorable flower girls: my stepcousin Sabrina, Kevin's niece Alexis, my redhaired cousins Abbey and Mae (they're sisters) and cousins Miranda and little Emma.

Dad and I before he walked me down the aisle.

The renovated greenhouse where we had the ring ceremony and reception. This greenhouse was the first greenhouse west of the Mississippi (supposedly).

The Ring Ceremony. This was performed by Jonathan Roberts, a family friend. Jonathan was the missionary that baptized my grandfather, and essentially, brought my family the gospel.

Guess you'll have to wait for the rest!!

Viva Las Vegas

I know y'all want wedding pictures, but we are all still waiting for those!

In the meantime, here are some pictures from our awesome, amazing Honeymoon in Las Vegas. We got back exactly a week ago!

The Beautiful Bellagio where we stayed. When we told them we were honeymooners, they upgraded our room to a lake-view room. We were so spoiled!

This is not a postcard. This is the daytime view from our hotel room window.

Nighttime view. Sarah sat mezmerized by the window all week -- oooh pretty! The fountain shows are every 15 minutes at night, and our TV had a channel so we could listen to the music in our room. It was such a treat!

Bellagio = beautiful lake. Apt description, definitely. I watched the "Viva Las Vegas" show about 20 times (exaggeration) and every time Celine Dion's titanic song came on, I let Kevin change the channel while I watched the show without music. There were quite a lot of different songs that the fountains "danced" to each night.

We had such a wonderful week together. We are so happy to finally be married and not be separated any more. We are amazed that we fall in love a little more every day. Stay tuned for Wedding pictures!

12 days and counting

Well, we're married! We made it to Vegas, North Ogden and back to Provo somehow. Kevin's back to work at the Library, and Sarah is still enjoying a break from work.

Things are going really well for us, except that the car caught on fire...

But seriously, we have been so blessed. The wedding day was beautiful and perfect despite a weather forecast for serious rain showers. Even though our car caught on fire and will probably be totaled, we'll get enough insurance money to help us purchase another car. We've been married in the House of the Lord, and no matter what, we'll always be together. We can't possibly be any more blessed.

T minus 7 days

We're getting married in 7 days! We couldn't be more excited to start our life together, and we're so happy that we are able to start it where we should - in the temple.

I've been preparing most of my life to be married in this temple. It's crazy that I'm about to enter his Holy House to receive my endowment and be sealed to the love of my life all next week!

Bad Day/Good Day

I don't know how he does it, but he always manages to make me feel better when I'm feeling sad/angry/stressed, etc.

When I got home from work, these were waiting on my dresser. Just hours after I found a note saying "Sorry I hit your car -- call me for my insurance info!" on our new (to us) car. And a huge dent over the front driver's side tire.

I love my fiance. I'm so excited to start calling him my husband in exactly 14 days!

We are no longer homeless. Sarah hasn't seen the new studio apartment they will share for the next little while, but is excited to have a home no matter what it looks/smells like! At least from now on we will have a little bit more time and we will be able to find housing together from now on. We are excited to finally be a real team - we work really well together and we're excited to see all we can accomplish together in 19 days!

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

As of this second, we are still homeless. Kevin is dilligently searching Provo for a decent, somewhat affordable apartment, but apparently it is a seller's market. It's scary not knowing if we'll have a place to live in time, but we are trying to have faith that everything will fall in place at the right time.

It seems to be the story of our life that we can't see the adventures ahead of us!

46 and counting

46 days and counting until the Sarah and Kevin Cook family is officially established. It's hard to believe that it's so soon! There's still so much left to do. It seems very close and very far away at the same time. It seems like all we've been doing since January is wait. And wait some more. But we are so excited to finally be sealed in the temple and start our eternal family. We are also stoked for the killer party our wedding is going to be and the amazing time we are going to have on our Vegas honeymoon.

We are currently sending out invitations, so if you don't get an invitation in the next week or so, it's because I don't have your address. Send it to me and I'll be glad to send you an announcement.

Number 7

This probably shouldn't be on this blog, since Kevin hates Harry Potter, but since he doesn't post or really read it right now, I don't think it matters.

As most of you know, the seventh Harry Potter book was released Friday night at midnight. Sarah had never done anything to do with a book or movie release when it first came out so this was a first. Katie and Sarah went up to the local Oklahoma City Wal-Mart at approximately ten minutes to midnight. They waited in line and and at about 12:04 they had a book in their hands. Katie, of course, started the book right away, while Sarah slept through the night. When Sarah woke up the next morning and went to work, she discovered that her sister had stayed up all night and in fact finished the almost-800-page book already. Well, cool. Sarah started reading the book when she got home from work, and finished at about 2:30 am on Sunday. Of course the girls had to dissect and discuss the book after they both finished the book. So J.K. Rowling created a whole weekend of late nights for the Heitman girls, and they only just caught up on sleep by Monday.

Both enjoyed the book, although the "epilogue" was quite boring and cheesy according to Sarah. It's so strange to think that something we have all been waiting for so long has already come. It's hard to believe the HP epic is over. Although it might be fun to tell our kids about waiting in line for a book to come out. Who knows if this sort of craziness will ever happen again for a children's book.

I graduated with a BA in Communications last month. It was surreal to wear the cap and gown finally, but great. It was really awesome to have my parents, grandparents, sister and fiance there to celebrate with me. I've worked really hard to graduate and it's really nice to finally achieve that goal!

U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney being presented with an honorary doctorate degree.

Sarah and Joe Tateoka waiting for commencement to start. "Joe! Why do you have a brown tassel?! We're in the same major!" Poor kid.

Me after commencement. Commencement was long and I was tired...

Me with Professor Walton after the College Convocation. It was so neat to have just the Comms majors graduate together - although there were quite a lot of us!

After sitting through both of my graduations, Kevin says he is even more convinced that he does not wish to walk at his own graduation. I love how he thinks he has a choice in the matter ;).

It was so neat to have my grandparents there - I couldn't have made it this far without the support of my parents and grandparents.

Our new family portrait! Thanks for the matching shirts, Mom!

Adventures unknown

Well, it's interesting when life takes you down what you think is one path, but then makes you switch to another when you least expect it. I was supposed to go to Chicago this summer for an internship, but all of the opportunities fell through. We're not sure where we are supposed to be in the beginning of our marriage. We may still move to Chicago after we're married, but for now we are just not sure. We will let you know when we know.

In the meantime, our wedding plans are still going strong. Kevin has three responsibilities: getting Sarah's wedding band, getting his suit for the wedding, and getting ties for him and his groomsmen and ushers. Sarah and her mother will be taking care of the humongous list that is everything else. Surprised? :) But seriously, things are falling in place and we know that just as the Lord has had a plan for us and helped us find each other, he will help us find where we are supposed to be.
